Porcelain Crowns (Caps) View Photos

A crown (or cap) is a covering that encases the entire tooth surface restoring it to its original shape and size.  A crown protects and strengthens tooth structure that cannot be restored with fillings or other types of restorations.

Although there are several types of crowns, porcelain (tooth colored crown) are the most popular, because they resemble your natural teeth.  They are highly durable and will last many years, but like most dental restorations, they may eventually need to be replaced.  Porcelain crowns are made to match the shape, size, and color or your teeth giving you a natural, long-lasting beautiful smile.

Reasons for crowns:

  • Broken or fractured teeth.
  • Cosmetic enhancement.
  • Decayed teeth.
  • Fractured fillings.
  • Large fillings.
  • Tooth has a root canal.

What does getting a crown involve?

Our State of The Art office offers a crown completed in one appointment. These crowns and onlays are metal free, all ceramic, and no require impressions. We use  Computer Aided Design technology called the CEREC machine.

We first prepare the tooth by removing any old filling and or cavity in tooth. Then we apply a thin layer of reflective powder directly on the tooth's surface.  Using a special camera, we then take a picture of the tooth. We work from this photo, which is actually a pin sharp optical impression of the tooth.

The CEREC machine then creates an extremely precise restoration. A high speed diamond bur and a disk work simultaneously to mill the restoration out of a solid block of ceramic material.

Finally, we bond the newly milled restoration to the tooth using State-of-The-Art adhesive dentistry.

You leave the same day you come in with your new crown.
